Linux distribution question. by dogman02002-03-08 09:27:26
Red Hat Rocks by RedHatDude 2002-03-08 10:25:29
Though I haven't use Mandrake very much, I tried installing it on my mother's machine (8.1) beta, but found that it was way too bloated for my tastes. The automatic package upgrader seemed to cause a lot of problems...

Then, on the other end of the spectrum of bloatedness there is LFS (linux from scratch), and Debian. I tried both of these and they were just too cold, er minimalistic. I ran LFS for about a year, but then had to re-install my system (I wanted to set it up better than before with the knowledge I had learned from the previous set up), but about halfway through compiling it, I said "screw it" and am now happily using Red Hat 7.2.

Personally, I say use the one you feel is best. Try a bunch of them (this is easier if you have broadband and a cd burner), and find which one more fits your style.
