Geek warning: MySQL and PHP on Redhat by Kickstart 2002-03-08 10:00:01
The new RPMs for updated PHP & MySQl on Redhat are very annoyingly broken. Don't upgrade just yet. They ignore the default RH location for mysql.sock (/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock) and instead appear to be hard-coded to use /tmp/mysql.sock. This breaks most PHP pages that use MySQL, and will severely screw up people on ANY distribution who have moved their mysql.sock to avoid having problems with cron jobs that clean up the junk in /tmp.

Thanks to Redhat for wasting my morning.
