Windows / Unix Difference by Rashkae 2002-03-08 07:24:49

Your right, both Windows and Unix / Linux need to be shut down properly. The difference is, when Windows malfunctions, shutdown will not work. Either the computer is hard frozen, or the shutdown process kind of hangs indeffinately, or you have a blue screen. In Linux, the only time in 4 years I've ever rendered my system unresponsive was when I accidentally unplugged an IDE disk (root) while my system was running. (fsck fixed up all the damage and I was up and running after a single reboot.)
