Perhaps your PCs are quieter than mine, perhaps you just get to sleep easily (::envy::). I leave my old P3-450 (one PSU fan, one tiny CPU fan) switched on more or less permanently, since it's quite a good white noise source for drowning out any other minor background noises :-) OTOH, my Athlon (2 quiet case fans, noisy PSU and CPU fans, graphics card and mobo also have small fans) hasn't been left on overnight for a few months (I did try it, but it's just too noisy).
Actually, it rarely has more than about 3-4 hours uptime at the moment, since I tend to shut it down and play MP3s/oggs from the slow one when I'm w*rking (I do maths, so w*rk usually means pen and paper) - it's noisy enough that it's sometimes actually annoying to be sitting on the other side of the room while it's switched on. (Actually *using* it isn't so bad, because it's under my desk, which does help a lot.) |
