well I got the account because Chromatix had told me about it. I was wanting to try linux before I installed my first distrib and it allowed me to learn/try things. So I used lynx, did email, and there were some games on the site. I didn't use it alot but I learned "talk" command, whois, finger, etc basic stuff I'd not used while in windows. It does have a donation system if you want more services I believe.(I've not fully looked at what memberships offer as I was on free) I'm not sure if it has irc but I don't think it had bitchx or another text based one... but that might of changed as I've not used it in awhile. I was telnet in via windows and using things. Only problem it had was it could be slow on connect if busy and it would count down if it was busy so you knew your status while trying to connect. It aloud me to set settings so other users couldn't "talk" to me if I didn't want it and I could adjust the mail to forward or get news. However with email you can't put on attachments. I was using pine and a few other things program wise. The link I gave should have some info and when you log in for the first time and set up a free account you will see info screens.(I think you can also do a guest account) The only thing I might change is email attachments for items forwarded but no idea if they can do that. The reason why they don't allow attachments is due to space restrictions as its pretty much run by volunteers if I remember right. Oh and I just looked at that URL I gave they do have an FAQ on their page(well actually a few faq's listed on the left side). I can't say much more on it as I've not had another shell account to compare it too but it seemed good.
