Friends, netizens, UFies, lend me your OPINIONS! by nixit2006-11-19 12:55:59

cracked roots & CLI entertainment by nixit 2002-02-14 15:31:58

Did your friend show you a good way to prevent crackers from obtaining root from a shell account? Of course being able to crack root is a nice skill to have ... um ... just in case you forget your root password, but it seems that, if your going to learn a weapon, it's even better to learn how to defend against it.

Also, entertainment does not necessarily require games in the classic sense, if you think building some good funtioning code that can do neat things is fun, like I do, then that can be very good CLE (Command Line Entertainment). That being said, I have also enjoyed some of the classic CLI & text screen games, and they're not all available on all systems.

As I mentioned before, I am able to find plenty of free shell account providers; finding a provider isn't a problem. What I would like to know is what to look for, what to avoid, and if there are any free shell account providers out there that UFies would specifically recommend (or warn away from).
