Heh... first post of mine on this board. Couldn't stay out of this topic.
My whole family was driving Harleys, but now are switching over to Hondas, which are looking and sounding just like Harley lately at a quarter of the price. I have a 2000 Honda Shadow Sabre, 1100cc engine with custom pipes and Harley lovers think it's a Harley until they see the Shadow sticker on the gas tank. (one said I should slap some Harley stickers on and no one would be the wiser) My Shadow cost me $7200, while the Harley equivilent is $24,700 BEFORE fees and taxes that would take it well into 25 grand. Check out a Honda store for fun. Ask to see a fat boy design.
The only reason I can tell for the Harley price tag is because of the premium name of Harley Davidson. My Honda needs less maintence and is nearly identical to a Harley. Just no sticker that say HD.
One person I talked to said they would switch to Honda, but they love their Harley Davidson jacket.
