I was a resident of New Mexico. NM beats the living hell out of Texas. Real scenery (once you go west of Roswell), Caving (I'm a longtime NSS member), climbing, downhill and XC skiing (in wet years), and some of the best hiking I've ever done. Plus New Mexican food, which for the most part beats the heck out of Tex-Mex. Fortunately, New Mexican food is catching on in Las Vegaas NV, where I live now.

Anyway, the aliens were just knowledgeable tourists, some of which decided to stay (in case you haven't watched the TV show _Roswell_ lately).
