<rant>Google doesn't think Canadians speak English by Kickstart2002-02-08 10:55:38

I'm not that bugged by it by Arienadean 2002-02-08 15:48:40
because the page it forwarded me to to do the searches is in english.(though yes there is an option to view it in french at the bottom of the page)

However kickstart does have a point. Does their forwarding/detection system mean they auto assume Ont and Que people speak french? Not all do though yes higher chance there. In the west here its higher chance they'll speak primiarly english. Do they check in the US to see if the ip is from New Orleans and offer possible french for that? Due to proxies and other things it could mess up. So I'm not sure I like the detection. Though I do like that they offer choice.(which would make it alot easier for non english speakers)

I think its nice they offer multiple choices and make an attempt to be friendly as many aren't native english speakers. My roommate is french canadian and he perfers to surf in english. My ex husbands family is chinese and perfer not to surf in chinese(big5, etc) but to do so in english. So though the language options are nice they aren't often used even if that other language is the persons native language.<shrug>
