| ...there is an element in Quebec that promotes separatism, but you'll find that element in the west too. Most British Columbians and Albertans would like to see Quebec leave Canada.
The big beef that the rest of Canada (mostly the West, less so from Ontario) has with Quebec is their "distinct society" position. Not that they want to remain a distinct society, but all of the perks they get with it: more funding, fewer taxes, special considerations, etc.
The few Quebecois that I've met and befriended are cool people. It's largely the arrogance of the Quebecois politicians that gets my hackles up. |
