...I'm all signed up though. The other soldiers in my unit tell me that the H2H combat they teach is jujitsu. But since I haven't been there, I can't say for sure.
Other than the incredible amount of time it takes to learn aikido enough to be effective, the main problem I have with it is it's innate defensiveness. That's all well and good for self-defense...
...I asked one of the instructors I worked with about this: he said that if I were in a fight, and my opponent for whatever reason was being as defensive as I would be with aikido, how would anything get resolved? He told me that in such a situation I could just walk away. I replied, what if I were not his target, but I was trying to protect something, to disable him before he could get to someone I love? He had no reply, because aikido is for personal defense. This is why I prefer Jujitsu. Jujitsu being the foundation of Aikido, it has defenses to the same type of attacks that aikido does, as well as some striking for when necessary and lots of grappling and solid throws. |
