| ... just because some forms are easier to learn doesn't mean that they are worthless. The Army teachs a form of H2H combat whose rudiments can be learned in Basic and AIT. It's quite effective. There is also a form of Tae Kwon Do, that the ROK teaches in their basic training classes. It's also quite effective. In fact, either form can take down your average civilian black-belt. After all, they are martial arts. Aikido, once learned properly, is extremely effective against all general styles, regardless of opponent skill-level. The problem is, that until it is properly assimilated, it is almost more dangerous to the user than it is to the opponent. I would love to learn Aikido but I haven't the time and good instructors are scarce. BTW, none of the instructors around here even know what chi is, let alone teach it in their art. You can see it in their kata too, they're just going through the motions. There is no energy flow. |
