I'm pretty sure im going to offend many people with this, but aikido disguists me. I've taken it before. While the principals and theories are perfectly sound, they require a great many years of training for them to work right. I haven't taken any form of Karate, but I don't think I'd like to spend time on an art that focuses on striking technique.
I do not like Iaijutsu/do, either; while it may be a good thing to know, I'd rather learn the more diversified techniques of kenjutsu.
I have taken martial arts though: my instructor is 8th dan in Jujitsu and somewhere in the dan's of Aikido. He was classically trained, and today he teaches a practical street form of Jujitsu to his students. I have a friend who has been taking Kung Fu, which looks appealing. While you may put your faith in Gojuryu & Aikido, I would much, much, much prefere Jujitsu & Tai Chi or Jujitsu & Kung Fu. But, of course, this is a secondary priority to kenjutsu. |
