I don't think the smell of Colitis is preferable to the smell of foxtail buds. I'm not sure if that would make more sense or not, but the foxtail version at least doesn't conjure up images of frantic searches for a rest area. I had to research just to find the foxtail reference, but now it makes perfect sense, except for your concerns about moderation. Colitis is ko.LI'.tus, I think, as opposed to ko.lee.TA's for colitas. (English pronunciations, go figure)
