...is difficult as there are so many variations of it and people who listen to one kind of metal tend to say that other metal ain't metal! What you probably remember as metal is now called true metal (basically describes the metal in the 80's). Today the hole thing has so many names I myself get confused and only use terms like nu-metal, thrash-metal, death-metal etc. to try and describe in what flavour of music a band is playing but I don't like using those terms. I prefer to compare to other bands (this can also cause problems btw.) but that also doesn't work all the time because sometimes a new style developes and can't be compared with any other band (maybe a mix of several). Metal for me is basically everything with a band playing loud music! ;o) Don't get the wrong picture here there is more to it! ;o) If you tell me what music you prefer I might be able to advise you on which bands/songs to check out!
