Mandrake and USB by Arienadean 2002-01-03 15:59:16
my USB does fine under mandrake and has under ver 7 (though I had to update the kernel) and under Mandrake 8.1. I'm running a linksys 4port USB hub with my webcam off of it which is USB. Then also I have a USB printer going just fine.(windows was a bit odd about both the cam and printer but mandrakes been fine about it). However... When I had my old machine going and mandrake 7 I was using a diffrent USB type(I forget which) and it didn't much like that. It improved later on with a new kernel. One of the USB types has been supported in linux for longer than the other. So perhaps that is part of the problem I don't know.(I'm not exactly a hardware person). I know it had no problem at all under 8.1 Recognizing my stuff and that USB though is fairly new so stuff is still being developed for it.

Only weirdness I've had so far with mandrake is I can't get the darn XawTV thing off my desktop. :/ Also I can't seem to force it to -d 320x240 or -b 32 (its more the -b 32 I want as frankly my cam looks like hell under high colour). That aside things are fine though umm wondering what happend to stats under ctl alt f12. I had a problem with lilo so used mandrake update to reinstall it(as my boot floppy ended up being a dud). Since then the stats are missing... :/ Oh well I'll ask my SO to take a peak at it later...

Anyways Mandrake 8.1 so far looks the best out of the 3 ver's I've tried.
