least in my personal experience. I got used to the sounds of a train whistle in the night and the quiet rumble of them down the track as I lived about hmm 1-2 blocks from a traintrack growing up. It was also fairly quiet there.(before the days of car alarms, etc and not near any highways, etc). Also it rained alot there and had central heating. I got used to those sounds at night and I missed them when I lived at places that lacked those things. Where I am now I miss the heating and have to deal with highway sounds(as the highway is about 1-2 blocks away). But I have the familiar sound of the train in the night and its a reasonably quiet neighbourhood for a city.
