They might axe back.
The whole layers of management is true, but it is not a comforting thought in my situation. I despised my boss - he was an absolute jerk who lost no opportunity to belittle people. Everyone who works in our office felt a little bit relieved once he got "retired".
But, we are in a small office that's been getting smaller for the last couple of years, and the fact that our boss had so much clout in the company was one of our safety-nets. Now that he's gone, nobody has the muscle to defend our existence.
The corporate people are secretly trying to build up a team of people to do what our little office is the recognized expert in. So it's only a matter of time, now.
Besides which, the new VP in our chain of command is a temp appointment - a contractor no less. And we have been told that there will be
1) zero population growth - anyone who gets hired will be replacing somebody.
2) a lot more outsourcing - where the consultants count towards the total headcount.
All that right after a consultant was given ultimate power over hiring decisions. It doesn't feel very empowering, let me tell you. |
