I'm dating one who looks up to me as a "brilliant techie." I keep reminding her that without good teachers like her, I would be washing dishes somewhere. Some years ago when I was out of work I was offered a teaching job (I have the credentials in that, too) and learned that the pay was precisely half of my salary writing code. I declined. I pay very high school taxes, but I would gladly pay more to improve teachers' pay.
