| At first, I agreed on the Frodo thing - I thought that Elijah was way to delicate looking to play a salt-of-the-earth hobbit. But I think that he gets the attitude quite right. And if memory serves me correctly, after he falls to Shelob, doesn't Sam make a comment that he looks rather elf-ish? I think, from that view, he was good casting. I also have to stick up for Mister Ander.. er.. Elrond.. I had doubts about Hugh Weaving and even giggled when my friend leaned over and whispered "Mr. Anderson" in my ear. But as a 12 year old girl, I walked away from the books years ago feeling sorry for Elrond for NOT being mentioned to be handsome, when just about every other elf was supposedly so. My big casting complaint has to be Cate Blanchett. Although she is beautiful in her own right, she fell far short of the 0ethereal Galadriel that I've always pictured in my head. I didn't feel that her portrayal of Galadriel was gracious enough - she gave her too hard of an edge. (and unlike the rest of y'all, I didn't miss Tom Bombadil, but I am sooo looking forward to Treebeard!) |
