REVIEW: Lord of the Rings by Illiad2006-11-19 12:55:59
Two issues with the movie by Gelwin 2001-12-28 08:25:18
While I agree that the movie was good, and I can forgive many of the changes that are made, I still have two issues with the movie.

Others have already touched on the first, the gifts the party received form Galadriel. In the book this was a major plot point. The cloaks where only one part of it. Each Members of the Fellowship was given a special gift that was indicative of their character. It should be noted that Gimli was the first dwarf permitted in the Queen’s land in thousands of years. When Galadriel ask what the elves could give him, he asked only for a strand of her hair. This gift symbolized the reunification of the dwarfs and elves.

My second major issue with the movie is the leaving of the Shire. In the movie this is done spur of the moment. In the book Frodo had planed for some time before he left. The most important point of this is that Mary and Pippen knew he was leave and planned, without Frodo’s knowledge, to go with him. They also knew why he was leaving and about the ring. This shows far more about the true character of Hobbits in general and Mary and Pippen in particular then Frodo and Sam running into them and they deciding to go along.

All and all however I enjoyed the movie and will see it again.
