I have to agree with most of what you say, although I was hoping to see Tom Bombadil (and understand why they left him out). I caught the "walking on snow" bit - it was one of the times when I let out a "Yes!" that got me some nasty looks from the people around me. Two questions: 1. Isn't Elrond supposed to be fair, not dark? 2. Where did you read the bit about the AI-controlled figures running away? I'd love to read it!
