You're right Illiad, Overall it is worth it. I was ready to nitpick before I saw anything, for the reported lack of Tom Bombadill, (Old Forest completely missing) and what I correctly surmised from the trailers as being the elevation of Arwen from
Love Object In Charge Of Embroidery, to Warrior Princess. (Poor Glorfindel) But even for a Hard-Core Fan such as me, It WAS worth it. I first read the book in 1963, and was captured. It took me two days to get past the first chapter, but at the end of chapter 5 I couldn't put it down, and finished it in two sessions! I have re-read it more times than I can remember, and consider it the World's Best Book. Much of the Dialog was faithful to the book, and all of the film was faithful to the spirit of the story. So the interpretation of Galadriel was a little much, despite much of the Dialog being accurate, and Saruman was upfront what side He was on, (The book had him self-deluded). I can't wait for The Two Towers, and The Return of The King. |
