I have to agree with most of what was said previous, and maybe it's just me making excuses about the changes however:
Love Story:
I actually think this was necessary... while it was done in the Hollywood kind of way that is becoming so formulated, it's not until the third book that the love between Arwen and Aragorn is seriously addressed, and it even hints that something went on before hand when the fellowship was formed at Rivendell.
In movies it's hard to show 'thought' and little eye glances wouldn't be picked up in a movie by most people, so the scene was kind of important to get the point across.
Liv Tyler:
For once I actually enjoyed her performance, I almost always want to wretch when I see her in a movie and most often ignore them unless dragged along to one. Granted I always said she looked like an elf, so actually seeing her play one....
Casting - Treatment:
I think they go a little too far with how they treat Pippen and Merry. Almost making them too comical. I hope that by the third movie we'll see thier transformation.
There was a lot of details that I feel they left out, but I think they can be addressed in the later films.
Overall, I was pleased with the movie, and my friend who has never read tehbooks can actually understand now what we're talking about. And the questions he did have coming out of the movie we're easily explained by filling in some details.
I'll see this one again, and I'll see Two Towers next Christmas. |
