This was a long time ago when I worked for a small mainframe software company. This guy bought a product and called customer support wanting to know why it wasn't working. Well, the support rep went round and round with him for a little while, but there was no sign of the product on his system. So, the support rep asks for the serial number off the tape. (Just think CD without any of the convenience.) The guy said, "What tape?" We checked. He'd ordered the product a couple of days earlier. The tapes went by Federal Express then. It hadn't been delivered yet. He thought that all he had to do was pay for it, and it would magically be installed on his system. (Kind of the opposite from today where you don't pay for it and it is "magically" installed on your system whether you want it or not.)
