I've used 2000, and I've used Linux, and I've got to say that Linux is by far more fun over all, while also being more stable and quicker (maybe not boot speed, but you've got to admit that Win 2k is a bit pokey too on boot). For general operating speed and stability, I've seen that Linux beat every version of Windows that I've ever had (Win 98, 98SE, ME, 2k and XP). I do all of my 3d graphical design in Linux.
Of couse, I DO dual boot with XP Corporate edition, just so I can still play the games that have not been ported to Linux yet. I'll likely never give up M$ operating systems completely, as long as most games are still made for Windows. =]
