Bagpipes have been played all over europe for centuries. You just fill the bagg, blowing in air.
When you start playing, you have to regulate air pressure with your arm or elbow.
Some players use a mechanical device to blow in the air.
(a flat pumping thing, i don't know an english word, but it is also used in wind-organs )
