Webster's says 'criteria' can be used as a singular too and has been vor over half a century. However, criterion -the original singular form- isn't latin (it would have another suffix) but greek.
As opposed to German where we use the word 'Kriterium' which has a very similar meaning but the latin suffix combined with the greek root.
