Richard II was an unpopular king who was caused a revolt.
On of the reasons for this was that in an attempt to stabilise the economy and slow down the inflation that came in after the black death, the parliament had voted a law that set upper limits to wages, but failed to set them on prices as well.
He was also betrayed by his advisors. One of which became the next king after Richard was arrested.( Henry Bolingbroke =>Henry IV )
This dispute was the beginning of the war of the roses between the house of Lancaster and York.
