The rest of my argument in that paragraph didn't have anything to do with divinity. I myself abhor the use of god and the like as justification for opinions, so if that's what you thought my argument was going to be, you are way, way off.
My only point about the consensus was that in situations where there is no way to rationally evaluate an opinion (or opinions), getting the opinions of a group of people can be useful. On the other hand, it's precisely these kinds of opinions that are the most pointless to debate. There is no evidence to produce, no logic to apply, so you might as well agree to disagree.
