Question to any Step-parents by CrashBehr2001-11-12 13:52:36
hmmm well... by Arienadean 2001-11-12 14:37:29
not exactly a step parent myself but... I think it depends on how you feel to the kids... If you like them and are friends with them well they'll grow on you. At their young ages tho they may (depending on how long your together) start calling you dad. Older kids would call you your name unless they asked you if they could call you dad or were told to.(my brothers step daughter called him his name but later asked after he married her mom if she could call him dad... and by then he'd been around he awhile and felt ok with that).

Genetics doesn't necisarily a parent make... I've seen many parents that shouldn't have their kids... :P

Love makes a parent and being there... If you are there for that child and you raise them... adopted or step kid or whatever you are just as much their parent as a bio one maybe even more a prent to them... They will love and respect you for all you've done/been there for...

I'd say give it time. Tell them to call you buy your name and after afew months think on it... If it feels right you'll know it. If not they'll be ok probably with calling you buy your name still. Being that little I don't know if they'd auto assume you in a father roll... maybe or maybe as an "uncle" My kids with my ex's thought of them as good friends and would call them by their first name... Same goes for their dads ex's... They didn't expect anything other than frienship.(but then my kids are older than the ones you're dealing with). Currently tho yes my kids think of my boyfriend as a step dad(even tho we don't live together at the moment)... He doesn't mind it tho and he has bonded with them.
