Question of the Day! | by kickstart | 2001-11-12 00:00:03 |
| Nobody really deserves it, eh? |

Or does everyone?
The definition of deserve seems to be void of overt moral properties, and thus it implies that the judgment can be made on one's work ethic or humanitarian value. Of course, these all ultimately boil down to whether someone whose opinion is considered more 'right' than others' judges you worthy, which is pretty much the same thing.
So, given that this question is supposed to elucidate some facet of my personal psyche rather than being a list supplied to an ailing, childless billionaire, I'll just skip to the chase.
I don't believe in divine anything, thus nobody's opinion is more 'right' than anyone else's. The "deservedness" of a particular human will never be more than a subjective matter, despite the almost unconscious assumption that the judgment is objective.
For example, the other driver may think that cutting me off in traffic deserves no more than my appreciation for not actually being killed, whereas I may feel he deserves quite a bit more attention, and rusty nails, and boiling nail polish remover.
So, nobody actually, objectively, deserves to be rich. But I'm sure more than a few would enjoy it.
even though such a thing is impossible. |
