Question to any Step-parents by CrashBehr2001-11-12 13:52:36
Not a step-parent but have lots of friends who are by SaleGamine 2001-11-12 14:21:48
Or who have them.
And well it is up to you:
There are several issues here.
If you don't feel paternal, don't pretend. The kids will know and hate you for it. Let things take their course, it will develop as it will. They may end up being very much like younger sibs to you, if that is how you feel more confortable.
If you do feel paternal, well let them decide how they feel about you before forcing anything on them. They will probably end up coming round to that point of view.
But remember ultimatly, they must be the ones who decide.
I have one friend who's children hated the idea of her having a relationship with a man who was not their father. She was very apprenhesive at the idea of having her new SO meet them. But since then the relationship between the girls and him has progressed to the point where she tells me she alternates between feeling that she has gained an extra child and feeling a little jealous about the bond between him and her daughters.
I hope it all turns out fine.
Best wishes for the futur.
