well - this morning i took occupancy of my new apartment - lots of room - very very nice - phone and power are on which is nice (now i get to argue with the someone over DSL service - but that can wait until Monday). However - when my friend who helped me move the computer network today (ahead of the main move tomorrow) hooked everything up - and when i powered on the computers - the win98 came up just fine - not hitches at all. but when i brought the linux box up - something had happened to my secondary network card - it was unavailable - also - my secondary hard drive was kaput - wouldn't mount - i'm getting messages like "bad superblock" and such. any thoughts on how to get this fixed - w/out fdisk'ing the whole thing? i'm not quite as worried about the harddrive as i am about the ethernet card. without that - the network is down - may just end up replacing the stupid thing - but i'd rather fix it rather than throw money at it.
