since I was a preschoolers age. It was dx way back then and they never really treated it for fear I'd become addicted to drugs or that those drugs would loose effectiveness, etc. Reciently I underwent sleep study. It concluded I wake many times in my sleep, etc. They ordered me off caffine, suggested I try some anti depressants(no not for depression just a side effect they have regarding sleep), and try a CPAP machine(for sleep apnea... its a mask that forces presurized air out to help breathing during sleep). I haven't tried CPAP and have been avoiding it.(I don't like things on my face and I don't think I could stand trying to sleep with that). During the study I went to bed at around 10pm but didn't actually sleep til well after 2am... then I had to get up around 6am(study ended at that time). During that had a variety of gadetry on me.
Over the years to help sleep I've tried warm baths with bath salts, warm drinks, getting massages(by my SO's at the time), umm <cough> things, and gravol.(anti nausea med that has a side effect of making you sleepy)
One of the longest times I've stayed awake was 72 hrs. One of the least restful sleeps I had was another time when I was in hospital for picking up amoebic dysentry while working as a curator in a museum. I never achieved very deep sleep, was on various meds, etc... I was in a state between sleep/wake for about 2 weeks while on various monitors, etc. One of the most restful sleeps was umm when my boyfriend was here last(tho we didn't always get 8 hrs sleep)... you can guess why. *grin* |
