5C Copy Protection by bldyrlms2001-11-09 01:28:05
  Copy Protection... by PSiZX29 2001-11-09 05:27:12
Reading through these sites, it seems that Sony and the others have developed this 5C Copy protection so that:

1. If the digital recording device supports 5C Copy Protection, you may be able to make one copy of a program or media, but the recorded copy will not be able to be copied.

2. If the digital recording device does not support this 5C Copy Protection, you will not be able to copy anything that uses the 5C Copy Protection, even if the program, show, or whatever supports allowing you to copy it.

This second portion is the worst of all of it. They are basically stating that if all manufacturers do not use 5C Copy Protection, then you may end up with a digital recording device that CANNOT record, even though the data you are recording is not copy protected. So basically, there may be digital recorder on the market that will be useless?!?!
