...in their commercial blocks some time ago...
IIRC there was one former Canadian(?) law about
'a moose not being allowed to do naughty things to another moose
on/near the public road'... (hey, how are you going to enforce that?
Fine the moose or throw him/her in jail? ;) )
About the 'Netherlands' section of the dumblaws site:
<quote>
It is legal to smoke pot, buy it, or have less than 5 grams with you.
</quote>
Eh? Get your facts straight: AFAIK most/all of those fall in the
"if they don't cause any trouble, we don't do anything about it"
category, which is not the same as _legal_...
What _is_ the dumb thing is that the laws against growing and
selling the stuff in bulk _are_ being enforced...
(that's a bit like saying it's illegal to run OS 'n', but it's
OK to run the programs that only run on OS 'n'... ;) )
<quote>
Prostitution is legal but the prostitutes must pay taxes like
any other business.
</quote>
What a mess you'd get if you'd start exempting certain people
from paying taxes...
I'm sure there are scores of dumb laws in the Netherlands,
but these two just fall in the "other countries think we're weird" category...
Oh well, probably a sizeable chunk of all laws passed anywhere
since 11 sep. falls in the category 'dumb laws', for ex. the fact
that the EU is currently working on making any law in member countries,
of which breaking it carries a sentence of 12+ months, enforcable
all throughout the EU... Whoopy, I don't even know most Dutch
laws and now I'd have to learn those of another 14 countries,
just to make sure I don't break some Portuguese(sp?) or Greek
law while just going on with my life here in the Netherlands...
</rant>
With such laws being introduced by the EU, I can see why some
Americans dislike their federal governement... :(
