i like both ADOM and Angband a whole lot. ADOM has a level of detail to it that i think is fabulous, and it can be played many, many times. my only gripe about it is that it's awfully difficult. i play it as it was intended, and don't back up saves or anything. if i die, i'm dead. and, well...i die a lot. i don't think i've ever had a character get beyond lvl 15. (i'd have to check. i should probably adjust that to 18 just to be sure to be correct.) i've had one character get far enough to take out the ogre base at dwarftown.
i like Angband a lot because you can take the game at your own pace. it's repetetive, but it's got enough variables that you don't mind. i switched to angband from moria a long time ago specifically because of the existence of unique creatures and artifacts. i'm aware that moria's evolved since then, and i think i even heard about a multiplayer moria, which would interest me keenly, except that in MP gaming, i've grown to expect grief in one form or another from anyone that i don't know personally. |
