major benifits of Latex are that you do not need to deal with document formatting, it has a very good symbolic language - have you ever seen this: \int_{-5}^{5} \cos x^{2} dy while looking at a site that is math heavy, and the many other novelties such as a ToC/index generator - if you look at LANL's preprint archive, most of the papers are written in Latex, if you want to see examples. HTML is also good, if you use it with CSS.
