I work in Tech support for Microsoft Office Setup.
The following are the steps that I have discovered and written in a solution object for use by all Techs in my call Queue for removal of the Nimda.E virus...

NOTE: THIS FIX IS VALID FOR WIN9(X) PLATFORMS ONLY!!!

Follow all steps to remove the NIMDA.A@MM virus as well as the following

1)Open Windows View Menu (in Win98SE\ME\2000\|XP use the TOOLS menu) and FOLDER OPTIONS.
2)Click on the VIEW tab Change the Hidden files and folders to Show all Files and Folder (Show hidden Files)
3)Click START\FIND (on WinME\2000\XP Start\Search) Files and Folders Search for riched20.dll load.exe Httpodbc.dll Sample.exe on all local drives
4)note the location of the files
5)Close all windows and reboot to MSDOS Mode
6)At the C:\Windows prompt type CD {folder} (where folder is the location of the riched20.dll and load.exe) and hit enter
7)Type attrib -r -s -h riched20.dll and hit enter
8)Type attrib -r -s -h load.exe
9)Type attrib -r -s -h Httpodbc.dll
10)Type attrib -r -s -h sample.exe
11)Del those same files
12)Type CD.. and hit enter
13)Type deltree TEMP and hit enter
14)Reboot to windows
15)Windows will now restart and error message will occur, click OK
16)Click start\run and type SYSTEM.INI
17)Edit the shell=explorer.exe line to remove the load.exe and -dontrunold
18)Resave the system.ini
19)Click start\run and type (x):\MSI\INSTMSI.EXE (where x is the drive letter of the CDROM and click OK
20)Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (MSICU.exe (msicuu.exe for win2000\xp)) to remove Office (start\programs\windows installer cleanup utility)
21)DELETE c:\program files\Microsoft
22)Click on start\programs\startup and delete (right click and delete) the Microsoft office entry
23)RESTART the system
24)Empty the Recycle bin
25)Download and Run the FxNimdaE.com downloaded from http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.nimda.e@mm
.removal.tool.html <http://www.symantec.com>
26)Re-install Office 2000
27)RESTART the system
28)Test Word and Excel
