I spend too much money on my hobby ^^;
At the moment about 50$ per month on Manga, haven't bought DVDs for quite some time because I'm saving my money for my trip to Japan next month... My guess for the value of my DVD Collection would be about 1000$ (Both Fushigi Yuugi Boxsets, Cowboy Bebop, Lain, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Movies 1+2, Urusei Yatsura Movie 2, Card Captor Sakura 1+2, Rurouni Kenshi 1,2 + 4, ...)...
Really killer items are CDs and DVDs imported from Japan though, even if you buy them at a used goods shop, you still have to pay shipping, which can add nearly the same again... *looking at my Soundtrack and jpop Collection and my FLCL DVDs ...*
