Because after years of watching relatives hunt and stuff I'd have night mares every time I saw them carve up an animal... Such beautiful things dead... because when I was a tot I had a pet sheep that I got very attached too... one day I came home to find it hanging up in the basement freshly slaughtered to cut into steaks, etc. To each their own but it just made me feel awful... and yes I know they weren't treated horrible they were treated well... But that was part of my decision at the time... because for me I couldn't contribute to the loss of life if their was an alternative.(I don't like seeing things harmed... guess I'm just sensitive)... anyways I also have allergies to several antibiotics, I'm also allergic to uncooked/processed dairy... Also I was a bit of a health nut at the time.(weight lifting a few times a week along with swimming, biking, hiking, etc).
So I guess you could say it was philophical reasons, moral reasons(as at the time they had on the news places that were being investigated for their cruelty to animals/practices), and health.
I don't mind the taste of some meats.(I don't like the taste of some wild meats tho). I don't like some vegan products(yuck soymilk) but others aren't bad.(I used rice dream where I could and soy based in other things).
As for my daughters reasons perfering vegan stuff... She has moral issue. She knows a creature dies... also for her its health due to her cancer... she also I think just likes vegetables.(yes she even eats broccoli and brussel sprouts... tho we both don't like asparagas) |
