So, there I was, minding my own business,... by special_ed2001-11-05 08:51:54
So, a quick poll: Why are you vegetarians? by JPaganel2001-11-05 09:36:12
Why I am not a vegetarian by Kickstart 2001-11-05 12:28:59
As I've said before, I'm a zen buddhist, albeit a bad one. I eat meat, I play violent games, I fish, have hunted, have beaten the crap out of people (with reason, at the time, though I don't do it any more).

I eat meat for the following reasons, pretty much in order of importance:

1) If I don't, I feel like crap. Seriously. I start to get sick more often, have a lack of energy, and can't concentrate. Please don't give me a "those are signs of meat addiction" speil...I've heard it all before.

2) It is natural. We are just as much animals as the creatures we eat. I spend a moment thinking about the animal I'm about to consume before I eat (most of the time). I practice to be aware of the consequences of my actions. Yes, animals are kept in non-natural conditions before they are killed for our table...so is it better that I go out and kill the diminishing wild stocks? For the record, I grew up on a cattle ranch...I've seen the barbarity of killing animals and participated in it. But given that, I've also seen that the majority of ranchers genuinely care about their animals (even cows) and try to make sure they are healthy. The good ranchers are also smart enough not to poison the populace with growth formulas, etc. The bad ranchers should be butchered themselves.

3) It tastes good. I like the taste of meat, the texture, and the smell. I like cooking it, be it BBQ, stews, or other methods.

4) The human race has been eating it for a long, long time. Our teeth and our digestion have developed to eat it. Obviously, too much will give you colon cancer, heart disease and kill you. Everything in moderation. Eat your veggies too. We are _omnivorous_!

5) It really pissed the vegetarians off.
