We are omnivores - able to eat both plants and animals. And I don't believe that we are natural hunters. If we were - we would have useful things like big sharp teeth, viscious claws, highly developed senses of smell and hearing and other things that predators tend to have.
I think we evolved mostly as plant eaters that opportunistically raided birds-nests and picked over the kills of other animals. As we became more technological and as the last ice-age encroached on our prehistoric habitats, I believe necessity forced us to hunt, and we have done so ever since.
We do not digest meat very well. The remains of it tend to sit in our digestive tract and our bowels for some time after we have eaten it. We do not need meat to survive or even to live healthily - Buddhists are vegetarians and they don't seem to suffer any more illness' or die any earlier than the rest of us. Meat seems to be more of a supplement to our diet rather than an essential part of it.
I am not interested in political correctness, and in true liberal fashion, am not bothered by your eating meat - it's your choice. Just as it is mine NOT to eat meat. |
