| If you think about it, the economy, which was already sliding into recession before 9/11, really needs things like this to prevent us from falling further into it. In a time like this, consumer spending is absolutely necessary to keep America above water. I went to Gap, and they had all kinds of things on sale for ridiculously low prices, and it was the same at Old Navy, Urban Outfitters, and basically anywhere else. Of course they weren't being self-congratulatory the way the car companies are, but if I were a major corporation doing something that helps consumers in the short run, and the economy in the long run, I would at least point that out in my marketing, even if I was doing it for my own benefit. I don't really know exactly how much benefit is to be derived from something like this; it seems like low finance rates would eventually end up costing the companies in overhead, not to mention people defaulting, etc. Like I said, I don't know that much about it, so if anyone can correct me, please do. Either way though, they are helping contribute to the recovery of the economy. |
