...is the only way humanity will drag itself out of the base stupidity in which it is currently reveling.
Our imbedded programming has us hard-wired for self-preservation, but far too many (if not all) of us have learned (or been taught) to confuse that with selfishness.
We have lost the concept of saving ourselves through saving the community and embraced the daily exercise of stepping over and on top of our fellow humans for our own small gain. We seem fully capable, even willing, to insult, endanger, and malign others just to be first in line at the ATM, Post Office, or stop light. Willing to ruin other people’s day just to save 10 second of our own precious time.
And for what? We don’t do it to spend “quality time” with our family. They’re too busy desperately trying to absolve themselves from the nuclear structure, favoring self-promotion over even that smallest of community groups.
Establishing one’s own individuality to extremes has replaced "fitting in" as the obsession of youth. Or do you have to be extremely distinct to be just like everyone else?
Without a sense of family community, voluntarily helping your blood relations to accomplish their goals and vice versa, how can you have a true neighborhood?
Without neighbor helping neighbor to mend a fence instead of vandalizing their flowerbed to have the best lawn, how can you have a real town?
Without creating a mutually beneficial place to live and shop and learn and teach and earn, how can you have real culture?
Without respect for your culture, how can you have respect for others?
It is easy to hate and hurt those that you do not respect enough to try to understand. It becomes US versus THEM without even realizing that we are *all* US.
