the cd is bootable .. and it basically walks you through it with a few clicks.. my mom managed it fine.

as for linux being true competition to windows, not from what ive seen. i've yet to see a linux distro that is as dumbed down as nessecary to take on windows in the 'old people and newbies' department. in addition to that, if you want to play any games besides quake 3, its windows or nothing. this is why i have two seperate machines for both.

a friend and i have been kicking around the idea of making a linux distro thats aimed towards people with no experience with computers for quite some time. it looks great on paper, but neither of us has the time. even if there was a linux distro that was stupid easy to install, and wonderfully easy to use, theres still things like software and games. it'll happen, but not soon.
