Well firewalls, etc... by Arienadean 2001-10-21 00:45:23
Firewall wise I shut off the sound on one I had in windows.(yes I know black ice isn't the greatest but it does give certain info but that beep is irritating... mostly use zone alarm). I've rebooted from linux to windows to do the odd thing.(in linux I see plenty when looking at stats... knock knock but they can't get in). In windows I watch the various ones go by as the firewall goes nuts.(I suppose I should clean the log files its probably a few megs or so again).

On linux I see the Code Red, Nimda, 2 types of netbios, and sunrpc's go by. Telnet attempts and printer port(??) In windows its some of the same and also I can see Sub7, and the odd other.

As for XP I've not seen much on it(other than the commercial). My roommates parents are running win2000 professional however. First thing it wanted to do on every bootup was dialup. It also had a few other quirks and apprently didn't like some software they had or something. My roommate had to head off to try to deal with it one time and his sisters boyfriend set it up originaly.(he was a windows server admin or something). I've got both 98SE and 95B here. I am running 98SE(my roommate talked me into it) but out of the two I perfer the 95B(faster it seems amoungst other things). Primarily I'm in linux tho. :)
