I have just had a very stressful moment. While copying a file from my Exchange server to my file server, I got a popup said the file was gone. Needless to say my heart skipped a beat.
See, I'm stuck running RAID stacks with IBM UltraStar 9G scsi disks. They fail on a regular basis. My boss is really edgy lately about data loss & such as that, and likely to fire any one of us (admins at the various sites) any day over something like that.
So anyway, I get over to the data center as fast as I can, and pull up disk management. D:\ is GONE. I reboot and pull up MegaRAID, only to find ~ALL 3 DISKS~ have failed. (Yeah, I know. 3 disks on a RAID stack?) I attempt to put them online, and lo & behold, they DO! So I back out of MegaRAID and reboot. Comes up, does a consistency check, fixes a few things, and BANG, the drive is safe. I am so relieved, I'm speechless.
To further explain the situation, as I said, that was my Exchange server. I was very concerned that Exchange would not come up. Fortunately, (of course, after I found that the drive was okay) I remembered that we had installed Exchange with the data on C:\, and never got around to migrating it to D:\ where we (supposedly) wanted it.
I need a beer.
Oh, and I'm getting tired of the motion-detecting light switch in my office. And magnetic locks. Oh well, those things are trivial.
Just thought I'd vent.
Anyone got a beer? |
