I agree with you...
I've not currently had any recient IQ tests. On online ones I've scored as high as 170. Which is comparable to what they said when I was 6. I scored one of the highest on achievement tests the years I took them(once got told second highest in western canada). However in school I had a rough time and struggled... I know others with IQ's of 200 and 300 (depending on the tests admin'd) who also simlarly struggled in school, etc. Not all of them achieved that much tho one was in CESUS.<shrug> There are alot of factors determining success in various things. Some are personality and determination more than IQ. My son has mild MR yet he does quite well on a computer and has to give his normal IQ range relatives at his dads tech help sometimes.(and no as far as I know my son isn't a savant and yes I do feel they may well of judged his iq correct... he learns diffrent but he is capable of learning, etc.)
IQ is hard to determine for some and it depends on alot of factors. My son has been through a variety of IQ tests. Visual, verbal, etc. I've been told the pros and cons of each by various professionals. I've even had a developmental pediatrician from a Childrens Hospital that specializes in children with various issues tell me that they aren't totally reliable. IQ might change over time, with diffrent people administering the test/diffrent test conditions, etc. Also there are things like savants that have an isolated skill or two yet seem to lack in other areas.
IQ's can change with time, age, education, etc... There was some study somewhere that confirmed the "you don't use it you loose it." |
